PROGRAM
Ron Lichtle introduced today's speaker, Brigadier General Doug Slocum, from Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which is home to the 127th Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard. He said that he often refers to Selfridge as "Michigan's Hometown Air Force." Selfridge ANG Base celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. The A-10 and KC-135 aircraft are flown out of Selfridge. The Base has served as a key domestic first responder for circumstances such as the Flint water crisis. Brig. Gen. Slocum spoke of building enduring relationships, which includes relationships with the nations of Latvia and Liberia. He also shared that of the citizen airmen, 70% are part-time, meaning they have full-time jobs in the communities around us. There are 414 organizations that are part of Team Selfridge. The base will become home to Traumatic Brain Injury Center. There will also be a 3rd Veterans home being built on land north of the base. Brig. Gen. Slocum also shared that the focus is on Selfridge's next 100 years as a part of our community. Q&A then followed. We all appreciated Brig. Gen. Slocum's presence at our club and his service to our nation.
