Sheriff David Blair, proudly a non-golfer (and not even pretending otherwise), slapped a fine on Peter Stuhlreyer for shaking up the sacred golf tradition. Apparently, Peter had the audacity to make the golf outing inclusive by inviting non-golfers to dinner on September 22. Scandalous!
Ann Peterson was welcomed back with open arms... and a fine. Turns out skipping a few meetings doesn’t go unnoticed around here.
Then came the moment of musical judgment. Sheriff David cast some serious side-eye at Linda and Jay Eastman, claiming there’s no way their grandson’s tuba talent came from their side of the family. “I’ve heard them sing,” he said. Boom—fined. A special “brass tax” was levied in honor of the tuba, a fine, noble instrument that’s totally romantic. Obviously.
Christine Hage was fined for promoting the Club Runner Rotary app. Not because it’s not useful—heavens no—but because, well, not everyone here has a “smartphone.” And let’s face it, the app doesn’t exactly work on rotary phones. (We checked.)
And just for fun, a little history to round things out:
- In 1456, Hungary told Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II to pack it up and ended the Siege of Belgrade.
- In 1515, the First Congress of Vienna gave us a sneak peek at the Habsburgs flexing their empire-building muscles while settling a spat between Poland and the Holy Roman Empire.
Speaker? Oh yes, we had one. But that’s a story for another fine...

Thanks to Sheriff Blair's creative enforcement, we raised $231 for our scholarship program! Remember, these “fines” are all in good fun and serve a great purpose: building camaraderie and raising funds for our charitable efforts, especially scholarships. Let’s continue living out the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self," with enthusiasm, punctuality, and a healthy dose of Rochester pride and humor!

District Governor Wendy Jones was our speaker today, sharing exciting updates from District 6380. Wendy served as President of Anchor Bay Rotary during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 terms. Professionally, Wendy is a realtor with over 20 years of experience in eastern Michigan. She is also the liaison for the Real Estate One Chesterfield Charitable Foundation, which provides her with the opportunity to work within her communities and surrounding areas on fundraising for nonprofit organizations. Wendy has served in many organizations and has received the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce Gold Medal Award. She served as a board of director and ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce for several years, as well as served on the community board for over 14 years.

She announced that

Paws for Polio will take place on Saturday, September 27, at Rotary Park (32184 Six Mile Road, Livonia). This event is both a fundraiser for polio eradication and a "friendraiser"—a fun way to build community. Families, friends, and their furry companions are invited to enjoy activities such as a dog costume contest, best trick, best look-alike (dog and owner), smallest/largest dog, and best behaved categories. The $10 entry fee includes a light lunch and access to all the festivities. Sponsors are still being sought to support the event.

The Foundation Dinner will be held on November 14 at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester.
The 2026 District Conference is scheduled for May 1–3, 2026, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.

As part of her goals for the year, District Governor Wendy is focused on:

Completing all club visits by early December.
Encouraging each club to achieve a net gain of two members, strengthening Rotary’s impact.
Inspiring more Rotarians to engage beyond their local club by attending district-wide events.
Increasing contributions to The Rotary Foundation, enabling more robust District Grant funding.
Offering support to clubs that may benefit from an outside perspective on internal matters.
Promoting storytelling—encouraging every club to share its Rotary journey and passion with the broader community.
