If you couldn't join us on  September 16, you were missed! We had 40 people in attendance.
 
INVOCATION
Linda Eastman gave a moving invocation stressing the need for peace in these troubling times.
 
FIFTEENTH HANDSHAKE
This week’s greeter, David Walker, named Tim Duncan the lucky member to go fine-free!
 
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK
Kay Ellen Wilkins passed the coveted trophy on to President-Elect Tami Salisbury, who was filling in for President Rachel, who was sidelined with a flat tire on the way to the meeting.
 
 
 
HAPPY BUCKS
  • Yoland Udell made a commercial announcement that the Meadowbrook Learning Center is once again selling mums for $15 a pot.
  • Carol Franciosi attended a peaceful vigil held at Oakland University on September 15, where hundreds of supporters gathered to honor the life of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The event was organized by the school’s College Republicans branch and Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded. BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES
  • We recognized two Rotarian birthdays today, even though neither gentleman was in attendance.  Brad Upton and Jeff Fosnaugh were the birthday boys!
  • There were no club anniversaries this week.
CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS
There will be no regular meeting next week; however, we do have our golf outing scheduled for Monday, September 22.  Even if you are not a golfer, you are encouraged to join Rotarians and friends for an early dinner (3:30) at Twin Lakes. Eric Whipple was this week's song leader and picked up the theme present in Linda Eastman's invocation. We sang The More We Get Together and Let There Be Peace on Earth.
 
SHERIFF'S REPORT 🤠👮‍♂️⭐️
Sheriff Pete Stuhlreyer hit the Internet looking for “this day in history” and came back unimpressed. So he did what any lawman with too much power does—he made up his own history‍.
👉 First order of business: he declared September 16 Dave “Pay-to-Play” Walker Day—then immediately fined Dave for the privilege. Happy Dave Walker Day, Dave.🎉
👉 History lesson: on this day in 1972, The Bob Newhart Show hit CBS. Since Bob was a “normal guy”, Sheriff Pete ruled that if your life’s a total sitcom, it’s time to cough up some cash, Cha-ching!
👉 Then he took a sharp left turn into tattoos. Nobody confessed to being inked, so he flipped it and fined the non-tattooed crew instead. Congratulations, Team Plain Skin—you’re paying up.
👉Sheriff Stuhlreyer also noted that in the last forty years, some things haven’t changed one bit: the ozone layer, Tim Duncan’s haircut✂️, Vito Pampalona’s floor plan, and David Archbold’s work hours.
👉Sports ⚾🏈talk came next: since local teams are sometimes winners and sometimes losers, Phil Lowman got nailed—once for not wearing a team uniform and then doubled down with another fine for interrupting. Sit down, Phil.
👉And the grand finale … Christine “Kroger Five-Finger Discount” Hage got busted for allegedly sneaking beers into the golf outing. Only problem? The outing hasn’t even happened yet. Shoplifting?? Probably not. Premeditated?? Sheriff thinks so.
 
Thanks to Sheriff Pete's creative enforcement, we raised an additional $178 for our scholarship program! Remember, these “fines” are all in good fun and serve a great purpose: building camaraderie and raising funds for our charitable efforts, especially scholarships. Let’s continue living out the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self," with enthusiasm, punctuality, and a healthy dose of Rochester pride and humor!

District Conference 2026 – Co-Chaired by Past Governor Sparky Leonard
Chatham, Ontario – May 1–3, 2026 (just 80 minutes from Rochester!)
 
Get ready for a fun, exciting, engaging, and informative Rotary District Conference, led by our high-energy Canadian Past District Governor Sparky Leonard. A long-time Rotarian, Sparky says that other than marrying his lovely wife Lorraine, the best decision he ever made was to join Rotary! The Leonards have hosted 12 Rotary Youth Exchange students, and Sparky has held many offices in his local club, at the District level, and now brings his passion for Rotary to leading a talented team in planning next year’s District Conference.
 
We apologize for not singing Oh Canada; we weren’t brave enough to do it since our pianist had already left, and our a cappella talent is questionable!
 
Program Highlights
  • Friday Night Keynote: Michael Landsberg, celebrated Canadian sports journalist (20+ years on TV), will share his powerful story on mental health  and the masks we wear.
  • Christina Hassan: Former Rotary Exchange Student to Germany, founder of Full Soul (non-profit supporting safe childbirth in Uganda), and a former Special Counsel for Germany at the G7.
  • John Hewko, the General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
  • Valerie Wafer is a former Rotary International Vice President from 2021-2022 and a Rotary International Director from 2020-2022. 
 
Entertainment & Activities
  • The Canadian Cowgirls is a precision equestrian drill team that travels throughout Canada and the United States, representing Ontario and Canada. They will perform at the Saturday luncheon.
  • Local service projects – every registrant receives a Rotary T-shirt to wear as we make a difference together.
  • Tour of RM Sotheby’s classic car restoration & auction center
  • A Surprise Canada Show at the Kiwanis Theater
  • Local breweries & more Canadian flavor throughout the weekend
