PROGRAM
Ron Lichtle introduced today’s speaker, Peter Provenzano, the president of Oakland Community College. Peter is in his second year as president. He spoke about OCC "Becoming the College of Choice." OCC has five campuses in Oakland County, and part of their vision is "excellence in all we do." OCC currently trains nearly 90% of all the Oakland County first responders. OCC is also a local leader in EMIT and Workforce Development. He highlighted a recent renovation at the Advanced Technology Center and then showed a video of Gov. Whitmer's visit to the center back in February. He also spoke about OCC's Five Year Capital Campaign to address $300 million in deferred maintenance and renovations to the existing campus buildings. He spoke of their recent work in renewing the HLC (Higher Learning Commission) accreditation, which occurs every ten years. They look forward to hearing back from the HLC. He also spoke of the Transfer Agreements that OCC has with other nearby colleges and universities, such as OU and Wayne State. Peter spoke about the Global Literacy Endorsement program and how Wayne State is accepting students with this endorsement into their Global Studies program. He also talked about how OCC is becoming the Partner of Choice with businesses and non-profits in our community. They are targeting job skills training and partnerships with companies to help students and businesses thrive. He also spoke about the growing partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts and its benefits to students and faculty. Peter then took questions from those present.
Thank you, Peter, for a great presentation about OCC!
