Rochester Rotary Club RotoScoop
August 20th, 2019

President Wayne Hodges opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we sang My Country Tis of Thee, and recited the modified Four Way Test.  The invocation was given by President Wayne, grateful for the community, the people in it, and Rotary as a whole.  He then gave a tidbit of information asking who celebrated World Humanitarian Day yesterday (pretty sure we all did, whether we knew it or not), and lunch was served.

ATTENDANCE
We had 52 members present, and four guests:  Matt Sebastian, guest of Jeff Duperon, Shaun Ohl, guest of Alan Smith, Sharon Reinke, guest of Linda Eastman, and Suzanne Klein from Grosse Pointe Rotary Club.

President Wayne inducted Samantha Wingerter into the club.  Samantha is the marketing director for Blossom Ridge Senior Living Community.  Great to have you here Samantha, welcome to the club!

HAPPY BUCKS
David Eardley spent a couple days at Cedar Pointe with his son, riding the roller coasters and enjoying the water park.
Kathy Losinski's daughter had a son, Henry Augustus, giving her the proud designation of grandma.  Congrats Kathy!
Shirley Gofrank was thankful for the Rotarians that helped at Neighborhood House sorting the back to school supplies.
Linda Eastman was really glad to live in Michigan, returning from the heat in Texas.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK
Marty McClure gave the bejeweled trophy to Tom Neveau for his invocation two weeks ago, emphasizing that Rotary is all-inclusive, regardless of the individual's beliefs (religious, political, or otherwise).

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Bill Ebinger brought us up to speed on the golf ball drop.  Anyone that hasn't turned in your tickets to Bill, please do!  The event is Monday, prior to the golf outing.  Reminder, half of the revenue from this fundraiser goes to our medical mission in Guatemala.

Rhonda Panczyk is breathing a sigh of relief, the golf outing is set and ready to go.  Any last minute golfers, please see Rhonda or Shirley asap.  If you don't golf, and want to join us for dinner, please feel free to reach out to her as well.  Thanks very much to the entire golf committee, let's go have some fun (and save the world in the process).

Tim Duncan announced that we have a baseball game, the USPBL championship game on Sunday, September 8th at 1:05pm at Jimmy John's Field in Utica, MI.  Cost for tickets is $32 per seat, including a meal and (2) drink tickets.  We have a matching sponsor for this event, in that however many tickets are sold, a monetary match (dollar for dollar) will be made to our Charities for discretionary use.  Yes, you are still paying for your seat, but the amount you are paying will be matched and donated.

Kyle Johnson gave a brief update from the membership committee.  Specifically, he spoke about the ambassador program, where established rotarians will link up with new members to help bring them up to speed.

President Wayne spoke briefly about District 6380's One Rotary Summit coming up on September 14th, 2019 at Concordia University in Ann Arbor.  The primary topic will be communication skills training, through the use of story-telling.

BIRTHDAYS AND CLUB ANNIVERSARIES
No birthdays this week, and no club anniversaries.

SONGS
The velvety pipes of Eric Whipple then led us in one song, improving our circulation and overall general health by getting us out of our seats and singing If You're Happy and You Know It.  Thanks Eric!

SHERIFF'S REPORT
David Blair then loosened our wallets a bit, raising $268 for our charity work.  He covered multiple topics, from the Dream Cruise to Mackinac Island to campaign slogans all the way over to the drag coefficient of a golf ball, absolutely nothing was sacred.  Great job David!

PROGRAM
President Wayne then introduced our current President of the Rochester Rotary Charities Board, Tom Neveau.  Tom spoke at length about giving away money, and how we go about it (local and regional charities 30%, youth programs 25%, international programs 20%, Rotary RI Foundation 20%, club accounting 5%).  All of our donations fit within the six areas of focus.  At the end of his program, Tom gave Neighborhood House a $5,000 grant to Kathy Losinski.  Kathy spoke briefly about what this money will be used for (maternal fitness and education primarily).  Great presentation Tom, and thank you Kathy, a very worthy cause.
Upcoming meeting schedule:

Tuesday, August 27th at Rivercrest

President Wayne adjourned the meeting at 1:28 p.m.
Anyone displeased about this summary, does them thereafter,

Tim Duncan
