Rochester Rotary Club RotoScoop
August 10, 2021

President Elect Tim Duncan opened the virtual meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, then we recited the Four Way Test. Lunch was served.

Cyndee Andrews gave the invocation to our club today.

There were 45 Rotarians present, and 4 guests, Kim Staudacher, Marjorie Diliddo, Talina Layton and Isaiah Martin

President David announced to the club Bill Ebinger. Congratulations Bill!
Our club had so much to be happy about this week:
Mary Lee Kowalczyk gave a happy buck in honor of her late classmate Kip Serota and praised his work in the creation of the world trade center.
Ron Diliddo was proud of his nephew who received his first star as general.
Bob Lytle was happy for the time he spent with his grandsons in Mackinaw.
Renee Cortright was happy about her vacation with her family in Alaska.
John Modetz was happy to be admitted to the charities board.
Tim Duncan was happy about the awesome concert he saw with Jason Mraz.
Mary Lee Kowalczyk gave the Rotarian of the week award to John Gaber. Congratulations John!!
Bill Ebinger and Ron Lichtle presented a check for $3,500 raised from the Garage Sale and Brick Fund to the president of the charities board Ron Diliddo to add to the charity's funds.
Tom Neveau gave an announcement about our upcoming social event on September 24, 2021. He could use some help to kick this off.
Ethan Hoffman gave an announcement on the Golf Outing that is taking place on August 31st! There is still time to register a foursome!
Blake McLellan gave an announcement that the Golf Ball Drop will be held on August 30th. You can purchase your tickets for $25 a piece or 5 for $100.
We had no member birthdays or anniversaries this week.

Dr. Robert Shaner led our program today with a wonderful presentation on Rochester Community Schools. It was a challenging year unlike any before in the academic world. Dr. Shaner was proud of the leadership the school district showed, being the first to close down and earliest to prepare for online learning. They quickly established a food service program and the virtual campus was set up in 6 months all in house. RCS was also the first to open back up for full day in person learning and were able to host a graduation and prom.

Through his Marine connections, Dr. Shaner was able to set up a Covid testing center at the school. Oakland county has a high vaccination rate and masks will be optional.

The administration building will hopefully be moving to their new location on Dequindre in the coming months. They have honored the building they are in for as long as they can and hope to put it towards good use in the future.

Traffic engineering is always a goal to improve with the drop offs and pick ups of students at the schools.

While Covid brought challenges it also allowed the school to adapt a different approach to education allowing content to be delivered at any time.

We are still on the look for a forever meeting home.
