Mike Kelly and Jay Eastment spoke about the golf outing and the golf ball drop. Be sure to sell your tickets! The event takes place Tuesday the 19th at Indianwood at 12:30PM so there will not be a regular rotary meeting. They are still looking for teams of golfers, so if you want to golf be sure to sign up!

Kelly Dean says always remember the 2nd Wednesday every month 5PM at the Royal Park for our Wild Wednesdays! A great event to introduce people to Rotary and to talk with fellow Rotarians.  Appetizers are provided  by the club.

Wayne Hodges brought up the importance of bringing up rotary in social settings. He showcased brand new cards, courtesy of John Sommerville, that display club events in the community. So the next time someone asks you what Rotary is all about, just give them the card!

Jerry Carvey needs 10 people to help out on October 7th with the "plant a tree for every rotarian" initiative.

Save the date for October 27th for the Annual Lobster Fest! If you would like to help with the organization of the event please see Steve Oehler, who is chairing the committee.

Make a note that the new club dues are now $ 75.00.

PROGRAM:

Wayne Hodges introduced our speaker for today.  He introduced Robert Shaner who was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marines, was a police officer, was in the National Guard, received his Masters at Central, and his PHD from OU.  He now runs Rochester Community Schools.  Dr. Shaner is  proud to work for a world class organization which is recognized  regionally and across the state. They are also recognized nationally and has the potential for 3 national ribbons.  They are the largest school district in Oakland County with a 96% graduating rate.  95% attend college.  Their students rate in the top 12% with SAT scores in the state and 14% nationwide.  He is proud that they have a sustainable budget and have put money back in the coffers 2 years in a row.  He was extremely proud of their job shadowing and exchange student programs.  Robert had a lot to say about how good it is working with professionals like our own Frank Rewold, and the architect French with the building programs.

Thank you Dr. Shaner as your program was extremely well done and very informative.

President Ron Diliddo closed the meeting at 1:30 pm.
